Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify predicting factors of childhood abuse trauma and parenting belief on their parenting attitude among married workers.

Methods: Childhood Trauma, parenting belief and attitude questionnaire are used to 392 of married workers living in 5 cities. The data were analyzed using frequency, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise regression analysis was used for understanding the effects of each variable.

Results: Parenting attitude showed significantly negative correlation with emotional and sexual abuse, and emotional and physical neglect. Significant predictive factors of parenting attitude were intellectual/achievement of parenting belief (¥â=-6.14), physical neglect (¥â=-3.58), emotional abuse (¥â=-3.17), maturationism/environmentalism of parenting belief (¥â=2.96), emotional neglect (¥â=-2.53), and sexual abuse (¥â=-2.22) in order. These variables were account for 24.3% of parenting attitude.

Conclusion: Results suggest that parents exposed childhood abuse need assess the risk of child abuse and interventions such as conducting family education or managing parents¡¯ parenting skills to childhood trauma. In addition, we need to develop standardized correction programs suitable for promoting early prevention child abuse through the nursing intervention programs.
